I live in a beautiful place. I really dislike it in the winter but I love it in the summer. It's a huge dilemma for me, without a doubt. :)
Lately I've been seeing really neat photos from the house, and luckily my great camera has been allowing me to catch some of them. So therefore, my "From the House" series of photos is born.
This bird was about 15 feet from me, in the double-trunked Douglas Fir tree we call the Twin Towers that is closest to the house. We've called it that for 24 years, so it isn't a take-off on the 9/11 situation. That tree was small when we moved here, now it's so tall it looms over the house! We estimate that it is around 70 feet tall.
I had to quietly sneak out the door, it took about 10 shots to get a good one of the bird, as it was hopping around in the tree and a little worried about me being there, but finally I succeeded! This species is called "Western Tanager" and they are vibrantly colored in red, orange, yellow and black.
I hope this guy comes back again so that I can get even more photos of him, as he is so colorful and pretty. His "lady" was hopping around in the tree at the same time, only on the far side of it, she was not so brilliant as her man.

That's gorgeous Jackie!! Would make a really nice card.. :) I'm finally on etsy, I favorited your shop :)))
ReplyDeleteI am so enjoying the Holy Spirit series on Homeward Bound! It has been so excellent!!
I love it! What a pretty bird! They don't have that variety around here. You need to take MORE pictures!!! And thank you for visiting my blog so much and your sweet compliments!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird Jackie!! Great shot too! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your 'From The House' series of pictures! You certainly do live in a gorgeous place, and you're great at capturing it's beauty with your camera.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about winter, I feel the same way about where I live, but I do love the summer here!
Mary, I love the Homeward Bound blog! And also, have you seen Shepherd's Chapel on TV? I think that many of the mysteries mentioned in the Bible are being revealed. So exciting!!
ReplyDeleteDonna, I have lots of photos taken from the house and so I'll be blogging them more often. I also have another series I've begun that I'll call "Endless Nevada", shots of the whole Western high desert and how big it is. I LOVE your Alaska series, it's just fabulous.
Trina, we are both in the same spot, aren't we? Maybe we could run away for a couple of weeks next winter, spend the time in some hotel claying our hearts out, huh? LOL! Sounds too good to be true. :)
What a beautifully colored bird~ Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeletehugs,

What a wonderful photo! I think the Western Tanager is one of the most beautiful of birds. How lucky that you have one on your "Twin Towers". Hope he sticks around and visit again. Pines sure do grow a lot in 24 years, don't they (so do kids, but not quite that much.)
ReplyDeleteVery cool bird-I've never seen one of those! Great shot!
ReplyDeleteHe is gorgeous! We get blue jays and cardinals, but that is about as colorful as it gets. I do enjoy seeing them.
ReplyDeleteDon't remind me about the winter :( Our PA ones aren't as bad as yours, but they are still long, cold, and snowy. Like you said, though, the beauty in the other seasons makes it hard to imagine living anywhere else.
How beautiful! Little bird is like a spotlight in that pine. Just a shinin' like the sun! Winter will come soon enough, eh?
